Course Registration Guide for Liberal Mathematics Courses(according to test results)

The mathematics achievement test aims to provide more systematic mathematics education by making a division according to the individual mathematics achievement level of each newly admitted students in the College of Natural Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences(except agricultural economics major), College of Education(math & science education majors), College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Medicine, College of Liberal Studies and College of Dentistry.

※ This Guide is written for spring admitted students. If you are a fall admitted student, please refer to the guide for fall admission in the menu above.

※ The test results are to help students register liberal mathematics. Students may take courses with different classification qualifications.

  1. “Honor Calculus Level 고급수학 수강 자격자”
    • Students who showed the outstanding ability in the test are eligible to register for <Honor Calculus 1>(L0442.000500) with <Honor Calculus Practice 1>(L0442.000600). This is NOT compulsory!! So you may still opt to take regular calculus courses(<Calculus 1>(L0442.000100) with <Calculus Practice 1>(L0442.000200) or <Calculus for Life Sciences>(033.007), in accordance with the liberal arts requirements of the college you belong to).
    • However, in the case of students in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Statistics, or Physics & Astronomy, it is a principle to take <Differential and Integral Calculus 1>(L0442.000900) with <Differential and Integral Calculus Practice 1>(L0442.001000).
    • If you register for <Honor Calculus 1>(L0442.000500) or <Honor Calculus Practice 1>(L0442.000600) while you are NOT in Honor Calculus Level, you will automatically get an F at the end of the semester.
    • If you belong to the College of Medicine, you may opt to take a major course in the Department of Mathematical Sciences in place of the calculus course provided that you have permission from your academic advisor in the college.
  2. “Regular Calculus Level 정규반”
    • Students of this level are to register for <Calculus 1>(L0442.000100) with <Calculus Practice 1>(L0442.000200) or <Differential and Integral Calculus 1>(L0442.000900) with <Differential and Integral Calculus Practice 1>(L0442.001000) or <Calculus for Life Sciences>(033.007), in accordance with the liberal arts requirements of the college you belong to.
    • In addition, depending on your wishes, you may take <Basic Calculus 1> TOGETHER WITH the regular calculus course in accordance with the liberal arts requirement of your college above.
※ Basic Calculus courses are a tutoring program where science and engineering students are taught basic mathematics required for liberal arts courses from outstanding undergraduate tutors. A small number of students are given a special tutoring in a group once a week for two hours, and grades are given as pass(S)/fail(U).
    • See [Liberal Mathematics Homepage] for details later.
  3. “Basic Calculus Level 기초수학 이수 대상자”
    • Students below a certain level are recommended to take <Basic Calculus 1>(033.016), TOGETHER WITH one of <Calculus 1>(L0442.000100) with <Calculus Practice 1>(L0442.000200) or <Differential and Integral Calculus 1>(L0442.000900) with <Differential and Integral Calculus Practice 1>(L0442.001000) or <Calculus for Life Sciences>(033.007) in accordance with the liberal arts requirements of the college they belong to.
※ Basic Calculus courses are a tutoring program where science and engineering students are taught basic mathematics required for liberal arts courses from outstanding undergraduate tutors. A small number of students are given a special tutoring in a group once a week for two hours, and grades are given as pass(S)/fail(U).
    • If a student in “Basic Calculus Level” does NOT take <Basic Calculus 1>(033.016) TOGETHER WITH the regular calculus course in accordance with the liberal arts requirements of one’s college, one must fail both courses(automatically get a U or an F).
    • See [Liberal Mathematics Homepage] for details later.
  4. “Elementary Calculus Level 미적분학의 첫걸음 이수 대상자”
    • Students who are below a certain level and are deemed to need to take supplementary courses as well are recommended to take <Elementary Calculus>(033.018) in their first semester.
※ <Elementary Calculus> course aims to cover basic requirements for calculus courses in depth and to establish a firm foundation for science and engineering major. The grades are given as pass(S)/fail(U).
    • Students of this level get "S" in <Elementary Calculus> will be assigned to "Regular Calculus Level".
    • Students who have not taken the mathematics achievement test will also be classified in this level.
